Happy New Year!

It seems as though 2011 has passed by in an instant. But, it’s out with the old, and in with the new, and a chance to make this year even better than the last. Start your year off on the right foot and join us for a New Year’s Day trail ride. The bonus is we’ll start just a little later so everyone has a chance to get a few extra z’s after ringing in the New Year. The ride will depart from the parking lot of the Daniel Wright Woods at 10AM on Sunday morning.

 

Events:

2011 NYE Resolution Cross Races. The Chicrosscup series wants to keep everybody focused and ready for the really big events coming up in January.  This weekend they are hosting races on both Saturday and Sunday at Hilton Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale, IL. For details click here

Cyclo-cross National Championships. This year’s National Cyclo-cross course is located in Madison. In fact, the races will be held on the same course as Badger Cross, held just a few weeks ago. Hopefully the pre-nationals event will help out the locals! For details click here

UCI World Cyclo-cross Masters Championships.  You don’t have to travel to a far-away place to race at Worlds. In just a few short weeks, you can head down to Louisville to race or watch the best competition in the world. For details on all the events click here

Looking Ahead – Women’s Events 2012

Annual Women’s Dinner.    It’s time once again to come together and share stories of the past season and look ahead to whatever 2012 holds. The dinner will be held at Kathy Corbett’s home. Join us for a spectacular feast and lots of fun awards. For details and to rsvp click here

Women’s Cycling Clinic. Mark your calendars for this year’s Women’s Cycling Clinic. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider wanting to increase your skills, this event is for you. This year’s clinic will be an all-day event to accommodate skills, technical information and of course, riding. The event will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2012, more details to follow.

Women’s Track Cycling Clinic. Another great event just for the ladies is the Women’s Track Cycling Clinic. Learn all the basics from the bike, the track and racing in a welcoming environment. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012.

We seem to be having a lucky streak in the weather department. It’s the middle of December and we still have temps at or near 40 degrees. First Snowfall of the Season

We experienced our first dose of winter today, but a dusting of snow shouldn’t scare you away from riding outside. We’ll once again be heading to the trails for our Sunday ride. The 3 hour ride will depart from the parking lot of the Daniel Wright Woods at 8AM and average 16.5-17 mph (trail speed).

If you don’t enjoy the chilly weather, you can train indoors at Higher Gear’s new Computrainer Studio. There are several ride options throughout the week, all of which can be booked online! For details click here

Events:

Badger cross. Head to Madison this weekend for the Badger Cross races. This is the same course as nationals, which will be held in early January. Keep your fitness and check out the course. For details click here

Afterglow.  Not ready to hang up the cross bike for the season? Get in on the action at this post Chi-cross cup race which is located in Humbolt Park, a gem on the northwest side of the city.  For race details click here

Highland Park High School Training CX Rumble. The Deerfield and Highland Park High Schools have formed a new cycling team and their first event is a junior’s cyclo-cross clinic. Juniors of all ability levels, in grades 7th to 12th are eligible to participate. This weekday event will be held at the Highland Park High School. For more info click here

Cyclo-cross Nationals. Nationals is practically in your back yard, so plan to get in a practice run at Badger Cross and look to the stars in early January. For race details click here

Women’s Dinner. After the racing is finally over, join us to celebrate a truly amazing season as well as prepare for 2012. The annual Women’s Dinner is open to riders and racers of all abilities. The dinner will be held at Kathy Corbett’s home in Glenview on Saturday, January 21. Look for more details in the coming weeks.

Illinois State Cyclocross Championships

Get ready cross racer’s, the main event is this weekend. Chicrosscup’s race #12 is also the Illinois State Cyclocross championship. It’s going to be downright balmy compared to the last few years. The big question is whether it’s going to be wet or dry. Good luck to everyone racing.

I’ll be leading a lakefront ride on Sunday morning. We’ll depart from the parking spaces east of Cricket hill at Montrose at 7:30AM. We’ll do one full loop of the lakefront path (Hollywood to 63rd Street) and return to Montrose to cheer on the racers.

Higher Gear’s Computrainer Studio Grand Opening. They’ve been working feverishly to complete the new computrainer center at the Highland Park store. Come check it out this Saturday. There’s a full line-up of speakers and snacks! For details click here

Illinois State Cyclocross Championships. There’s no snow on the ground and it’s going to be more than 10 degrees, but the state championships will still go on! Head to Montrose to race and/or spectate. The battle for this year’s prized jersey is on! For race details click here
