Labor Day Weekend

We’ve enjoyed a great summer with lots of hot weather, great rides and races. As one season wraps up, another will begin, keeping us rolling along. Last night we had two amazing state championships at Northbrook Velodrome; the Elaine Nekritz Scratch race and the Madison. What a night of racing!! Read on, as there are plenty of things to keep you busy this weekend.

Rides:

Saturday No Drop Ride. This 2 hour ride departs from Higher Gear Wilmette at 7AM. Riders enjoy a scenic ride along Sheridan Road.

Sunday Ride. Our Sunday ride will be cancelled for the next few weeks. We will pick up again starting Sunday, September 22.

Tuesday Women’s ride. This ride departs from HG Wilmette at 9:30AM. The 1.5 hour ride is split into groups based on ability.

Wednesday Women’s Ride. This will be the final Wednesday ride of the season : ( Since we’re a little short on light, we’ll start at 6:15pm. Bring your blinkie lights and something for a post ride celebration.

Fredo’s Ride.  Join Fredo on a fast paced group ride each Thursday night during the summer. The ride departs from HG Wilmette at 5:30PM and averages 20+mph.

Events:

Gateway cup.  This 4 day St Louis series offers challenging courses and great competition. If you haven’t fulfilled your road season race fix, head south for a spectacular weekend. For details click here.

ABR National Track Championships. Have you made it out to the Velo Campus on the south side? It’s an amazing 160 meter track that will take your breath away with its 50 degree banking! This weekend they will host the ABR championship races as well as offer certifications to race on the track. For details click here.

Return to Cherry Valley Time Trial. Looking for a time trial this weekend? Head out to the Cherry Valley 20K TT course. For race details click here.

Coming soon:

Women’s & Trans Cyclocross Clinic for Beginners. Cyclo-cross season is right around the corner. Get a tune up on your skills or learn the basics at this upcoming clinic. For details click here.

Team Time Trial. This is one of my favorite races. To do well you must ride smart and ride for your team. Unfortunately there isn’t any information available about this year’s course, but I’ve been told by multiple sources that the race will go on. Check the ABR website for any further developments.

Have a fun and safe holiday weekend!
