Happy New Year!

As we wrap up 2012, we can look back on an impressive year of cycling in the Chicagoland area, especially for women. The Lake Bluff and St. Charles criteriums were added to the road schedule, the Chicago Velo Campus added another venue for track racers, the Chicross Cup Series saw an impressive turnout in the women’s fields and the Venus de Miles women’s ride was added as a non-competitive event – whew! Thanks to all who make these events possible and for all the women who come out to make them fun. Get ready for 2013, it’s going to be even better!
There are no events scheduled for this weekend, so it’s prep time for the upcoming races. There’s snow on the ground and there’s a good chance you’ll be racing in it too. Get out and practice riding in the snow. Even if you’re not going to race, getting a little experience on a slippery surface will help improve your skills.
Events:
New Year’s Resolution Races – Held at the familiar Hilton Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale, this series offers some fun field combinations for women including ¾ , 2/3 and UCI categories. Spectating will be very cool as well with six time National cyclocross champion, Tim Johnson competing. For a schedule of events click here.
US National CX Championships – Held in Badger Park in Verona, Wisconsin. Currently the course is covered in several inches of snow, which could make for a fun and interesting race, but it’s anyone’s guess what the conditions will be like for the series, which begins in just under 2 weeks. For event details click here.
Coming Up:
Women’s Dinner – Mark your calendar for this year’s women’s dinner at Kathy Corbett’s home. The event is scheduled for Saturday, January 26. More details to follow.
Have a safe and Happy New Year!

Afterglow

afterglowThis weekend’s race may just be the epic mud-fest local cyclo-cross racers have been waiting for. Pack your mud tires, your least pristine jersey and a can of Pam spray (helps keep some of the mud off your cleats) and head out to the Afterglow race, located south of the Loop. Aside from the expected mud, the word on the street is the course is not too long, but is still guaranteed to provide plenty of pain and suffering. Sound like fun? Whether you plan to race or spectate, don’t miss out on a race so close to home.
Rides:
Sunday Trail Ride – We’ll hit the trails again this Sunday. Join us for an 8AM start in the parking lot of the Daniel Wright woods.
Events:
The Afterglow – This year’s course is located in the Douglas Park Golf Course. For details, click here.
Coming up:
New Year’s Resolution Cross Races – Start your New Year off on the right foot and head back to the Hilton Indian Lakes Resort. You’ll have some time to recover from the holiday since the races are on January 5th and 6th. For race details click here.

This December weather is spectacular. Get out and enjoy and have a great weekend!

The Fun Continues

You would’ve thought we were at a beach in Miami during last weekend’s state cyclo-cross championships. Although it looked like there was barely a space on the course to catch your breath, the main obstacle was the SAND. With crazy warm December temps, racers dressed in their summer gear, grinded their way through the sand and grass. There were plenty of endo’s, and the crowd cheered with every spectacular flip. Although there were many, Marie Snyder of the Cuttin Crew gets top honors for her stunts.
It’s cooled down a bit this weekend, but there is still plenty of riding and racing. See the listings below for cycling options.
