The temperature is finally heading in the right direction. If you haven’t made it outside yet, this may be the weekend to take your bike on the road. If you’re looking for a little camaraderie, you’re in luck! Local women racers are leading a spring training ride. The ride is this Saturday and will depart from Chicago (Damen and Clybourn/Diversey) and head north to Highland Park. The ride speed will depend on the participants, but should average between 14-18 mph. For ride details, click here.
Spring Super Criterium – Head out to Blackhawk Farms Raceway in Beloit to be part of the first race in the 2013 Illinois Cup series. The race car track has some fun twists and turns that’ll add some excitement to the races. For more information, click here.
Kenosha Velosport Spring Training Races – Event #3 – The final event of this series is on Sunday, April 7. Women’s Track Cycling Clinic – Event #1. Join us for our annual women’s track cycling clinic and learn the basics of riding a fixed gear bike and riding and racing on a velodrome. The first event is at the Northbrook Velodrome, a beginner friendly track and a great place to get started. To register for the event, click here.

Women’s Weekend at Rays Indoor Mountain Bike Park – I attended this event last year and had so much fun and learned a ton. Pro mountain biker, Leigh Donovan will lead a team of instructors to help you with everything from rock gardens to the pump track and even jumps (jumps not required). Half Acre’s Gaper’s Block Crit Series – What better way to figure out this racing thing than practice, practice, practice and that’s what the Gapers Block Crits are all about. Hillsboro Roubaix – This is usually the big kickoff race for the road racing season. It’s a few weeks earlier this year, but the course will still be tough and the competition tougher! It’s a bit of a hike, so plan ahead. For race details click here https://www.bikereg.com/Net/17993.

Spring Thaw Icebreaker- New to the racing scene? Come out to Bangers & Lace at 1670 W. Division from 6-8PM this Monday evening. Chicago Bike Swap – The bike swap in next Saturday at UIC. You can reserve a table to sell your equipment or you can search the tables for the parts you’re looking for. Half Acre’s Women & Transgender Racing Clinic. This clinic is sold out and that’s good and bad. We’re happy to see that so many women are interested in learning about bike racing, but we’re sad that for those who didn’t get in to this year’s clinic
Women’s Track Cycling Clinic Series – The dates are set for this year’s Women’s Track Cycling Series. The first event will be held at the Northbrook Velodrome on Saturday, May 4 and will focus on the basics. The second event will be held at the Chicago Velo Campus and will include certification on the 166 meter, 53 degree banked track! The CVC clinic will be held on Saturday, June 15. Half Acre’s Gaper’s Block Crit Series – The women’s category 4 field is already sold out for this event, another fantastic victory for women’s cycling.
