Summer Begins

snake alleyMemorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer. The promise of warm weather and many magnificent miles of riding and racing are just ahead. The Chicago cycling scene has exploded with opportunities for cyclists and more importantly, opportunities for women cyclists. Take advantage of all this city has to offer and get out and ride!
Events:
Quad Cities Memorial Day Races – For women, this series starts off with the, “Snake”, a challenging climb up a twisty brick street. The series continues with the Melon City Crit, which is more of a circuit race which includes a speed bump at the bottom of a fast descent. ABD Master’s Memorial Day Series – If you’re 30+ and want to stay close to home over the Memorial Day weekend, head out to Wooddale for this annual series. For more information, click here http://www.ambikerace.com/2013/flyers/MastersMem.html.
Petego Race Series at the Chicago Velo Campus – This Sunday the CVC will kick off their racing season. The track will open at noon and the races will begin at 2PM. For information on the track, click here http://www.chicagovelocampus.com/.
Coming Up:
Fundraiser – Come out and support the Columbian National Women’s Cycling Team at this fundraiser dinner. The event will be held at El Llano restaurant on Friday, May 31 at 7:30PM. For details on the event or to make a donation, please contact David Cordoba at dcordba56@aol.com.
Glencoe Grand Prix- We’ve got a heavy hitter next weekend with the Glencoe Grand Prix. This is a fast, technical and challenging course and it typically draws great competitors from near and far. For race info, click here http://www.glencoegrandprix.com/.

Bong and a Half Time Trial – Yet another option for racing next weekend! The Bong time trial course is as uncomplicated as they come. Go fast and turn right and you’re all set! For race details, click here http://www.ambikerace.com/2013/flyers/bong.htm.
Columbian Women’s Team Group Ride – The Columbian Women’s Cycling team will join Wheel & Sprocket’s Betty Ride on Sunday, June 2. Come out and get a chance to chat it up with the racers. Learn what life is like on the international pro circuit and the obstacles these women have overcome to make it to this level. The 40-45 mile ride will depart from Wheel & Sprocket in Evanston at 8AM.
Women’s Track Cycling Clinic Series Event #2 – Don’t miss out on a great opportunity to learn about track racing and riding at this gem of a velodrome. The event will include track certification and a free pass to an upcoming CVC race! There will also be a post event party with food and drinks.
