Summer Cycling Continues

Last night was Ladies Night at the Northbrook Velodrome and the ladies and the crowd didn’t disappoint. To begin with, it was great to welcome back a few top notch ladies. Combined with a good showing of the regulars, we had some fast and fun racing. Thanks to our guest announcer, Andrew Nordyke, who was responsible in raising over $100 in crowd primes for the final ladies race. If you haven’t made it out to the track to race or spectate, it’s not too late. The Thursday night series continues through mid-September.
If you want to hear about bike racing or just want to get in a little morning ride, join Vanessa Buccella, the Illinois Cycling Association’s secretary and cycling promoter extraordinaire. She’ll be rounding up riders at 8:30AM this Saturday at 4700 N. Damen in Chicago. The ride will head north into Skokie and returning home by 11AM. For ride details, click here.
Events:
Prairie State Cycling – The next big series is underway, kicking off with the Food Folks and Spokes criterium in Kenosha. Tomorrow’s race, the Chicago Criterium has been cancelled, but the races will continue on Sunday with the Tour de Crystal Lake. For more information on the entire series, click here.
The series is also promoting World Bicycle Relief, a charity that provides bicycles to people in Africa, making a serious impact on their ability to find work. Donations can be made at the race series and donations will be matched up to $5,000.00.
Wolfgang Freitag Memorial 2 Person 50K Time Trial – If you’ve been watching the tour, then you’ve seen what time trials are all about. My personal favorite is the team time trial, which can be brutally hard, but so rewarding. Not quite the large team tt of the tour, but an effort in teamwork nonetheless is the 2 person time trial. The course is a 25K loop, which is covered twice during the event. For details on the event, click here.
Coming up:
Dr. Schultz Memorial 40K TT – This is the same flat and fast 40K course held in Cordova, IL and it’s the perfect practice distance for Olympic distance triathletes. For details on the event, click here.
Palos Meltdown – Calling all mountain bikers! The Palos Meltdown is one of the few mountain bike races in northern Illinois. It’s a great course and a lot of fun, so don’t miss out. For details on the event, click here.
Have a great weekend!
