Last weekend we saw a record turnout for the women’s ¾ field at Hillsboro Roubaix. There were 75 women on the line to start the race – just incredible! I hope we can keep that momentum going as we head into the heart of the racing season. Besides road racing, there’s also track racing, which is near and dear to my heart. If you haven’t tried track racing, this weekend you can see what it’s all about at the Women’s Track Cycling clinic being held at the Northbrook Velodrome. See the information below for all the details, and BE there!
Races – This Weekend:
Urbana Grand Prix – This year’s course is new and features a 1.6 mile loop with an uphill finish. The race is being held in Crystal Lake Park in Urbana. For more details, click herehttp://www.scarletfireracing.com/images/2014_URBANA_GRAND_PRIX_flyer.pdf .
Single Bong Time Trial – This time trial series always draws a little extra attention with its name, but there’s nothing funny about the course. Located in southern Wisconsin, the course covers the area around the Bong Recreational facility. It’s a circular loop, so it’s safer than most since you don’t have to cross traffic. The first in the series is one loop, which is 20K. For race information, click here http://www.midamericatimetrialseries.com/Bong_Flyer_2014%20m5.pdf.
Races – Coming up:
Monsters of the Midway – You don’t have to go far to participate in this race. The course is run on the University of Chicago campus’ famed Midway Plaisance. The course has wide open corners and long straight-aways, so it’s a great place to get your feet wet in criterium racing.
