It’s showtime for the Chicago area bike racing scene! The Glencoe Grand Prix gets underway tomorrow morning and it’s part of the NCC (National Criterium Calendar), so the big guns from around the country are headed our way to take part in the action. We had a little preview of the talent at Northbrook last night. Professional racer Rahsaan Bahati rushed in from O’Hare, assembled his bike and had a little fun in the Thursday night track racing. There are so many opportunities and the weather is going to be delightful. Get out and have some fun!
Events – This Weekend:
LAPT/Trek Midwest Road Race – Located just north of Kettle Moraine, this road race promises to be challenging and scenic. For details on the event, click here.
Glencoe Grand Prix –This event is top notch when it comes to course, competition and event. The course is technical and the elevation changes add to the challenge. The event draws local and national talent, so be sure to have your game face on come race day. For event details, click here.
Cobb Park Criterium – You won’t see Laurent Fignon or Bob Roll in Kankakee this weekend. They made their mark on this course years ago! You will see some great competition on this historic course along the Kankakee River. Many of the pros who are in town for the GGP are heading south on Sunday for more action. It’s a one-two punch for extreme competition. For more information, click here.
Tour of Galena –Stage races are practically non-existent in these parts, so it’s a real treat to have the Tour of Galena. You can participate by stage or the overall. The stages include a circuit race, time trial, road race and criterium. The courses are very hilly and challenging, except for the crit, which is nice and flat! For details on the series, click here.
River City Bicycle Classic – Located in Evansville, Indiana, this race is a short flat crit course with wide sweeping turns around a lake. It’s a feel-good event, with some of the proceeds going to the Boys & Girls Club of Evansville. For details on the event, click here.
Women’s Dirt Day’s #2 – This time the ladies are heading to the Kettle for a little off-road fun. Kettle Moraine is a little bit of a drive, but there are lots of trails; short and long. Plan to head out for a day of fun. For more information on the event, click here.
Women’s Track Cycling Clinic at the CVC– Plan to attend this women’s only track clinic at the Chicago Velo Campus. The clinic includes track certification as well as the basics of track riding and racing. For more information or to register, click here.
