Tour of America’s Dairyland

This is the final week of June and although the weather has been a little cool for typical summertime fun, the action in the racing scene is HOT. The final races of the ToAD series are wrapping up this weekend but there’s more on the way with the Prairie State Series to begin mid- July. Read on for all the cycling fun in our area.

Events – This Weekend:

Tour of America’s Dairyland – It’s the final few days of racing in this year’s ToAD series. Although there has been some spectacular racing, the final few days are really top notch!

Saturday is the Downer Avenue Classic. The course is located in Milwaukee’s historic east side which contains a great neighborhood and a buzzing commercial district. There will be food, fans and music to coincide with all the racing.

Sunday the series heads to Wauwatosa for the East Tosa Grand Prix. This is four corner crit with a bit of elevation change to mix things up. The course is located in a great neighborhood so there’ll be lots of fans to cheer you on! For details on the final events, click here.

Morton Community Bank Cycling Classic – Interested in gaining coveted Illinois Cup points? Head south to Peoria for this all right hand turns crit course and earn double points for all ICA categories.  For race information, click here.

Coming Up:

Illinois State Master’s Track Championships – Attention all master’s racers, head out to Northbrook next Saturday for the 2014 Illinois State Championships. The championships will cover timed and mass start events. For information, click here.

Women’s Dirt Day’s #3 – It’ll be a quiet holiday weekend, so it’ll be a great time to enjoy a little off-road time on the trails at Palos.  All levels of riders are welcome and it’s a great way to learn the trail system. For more information, click here.

Women’s Events:

Rapha Women’s 100: Chicago Loop – Join women around the world in participating in organized 100K bike rides. The Chicago ride starts at Heritage Bikes in the City and heads north to Highland Park and back. For information, click here.

La Course by Le Tour de France – We’re all excited about the upcoming Tour de France, but wouldn’t it be great to see women have the opportunity to race on such a spectacular course? We’re not quite there, but there will be a women’s single stage race as part of this year’s Tour. Mark your calendar to make sure you watch the race and let it be known you’re in favor of seeing more by sharing your thoughts on social media. Let’s make it happen for women! Venus de Miles Ride – Looking for a fun, but low key bike ride? Participate in this year’s Venus de Miles ride, which benefits the Greenhouse Scholars. There are three distance options available, which are 13, 28 and 64. After the ride there is a fabulous post ride party with food, beverages, music and other fun pampering services.
