February Begins

groundhog-thinkstock-92243675-335sm13013

February is knocking on our door and with that the hope of getting one step closer to spring. We’ll all be watching to see what the groundhog thinks this coming Monday. Will it be six more weeks of winter, or will we be spared and enjoy an early spring? One thing for sure is that the days are getting longer and it’s nice to see a little more light in the morning and in the evening.

Riding outside this winter hasn’t been terrible, certainly not like last year. There are also plenty of local events to keep you motivated an on-track with your training.

Events:

ABD Indoor TT Series Race #2 – Welcome February by getting in a little competition. The second race in ABD’s indoor series is a downhill course, so be prepared to push a big gear! All the indoor races will be held at the Winfield Central School in Winfield, IL. For details on the event, click here.

Coming Up:

Specialized Indoor Time Trial Race Series – Event #3 – Event #3 will be held at Village Cycle Sport in Arlington Heights on Sunday, February 8. The course has not yet been disclosed, but insiders say it will be rolling terrain. For information on the series or to register, click here.

FFC & Trimonster Training Indoor TT Series –There’s no shortage of indoor time trials to keep you fit or in race mode. This series will be held at the Lincoln Park Fitness Formula training center. The first of the three will be a 2 person team time trial, which will be an interesting twist to your typical indoor TT. For details on the series or to register, click here.

Ray’s Indoor Park Women’s Weekend 2015 – Plan ahead to attend this year’s women’s weekend at Ray’s. It’s a great opportunity to learn from the pros and practice your mountain bike skills on everything from the very basic to the over-the-top extreme. For more information or to register, click here.

Have a great weekend!

Chicago Bike Swap

Bike swap banner[1]

It’s going to be downright balmy this weekend in Chicagoland! With the snow melt and warm temperatures, many will probably take their training outdoors. Whether inside or out, there’s good stuff ahead!

While we look ahead, we also want to take a step back and celebrate the success stories from Cross Nationals. Did you know there were national championships in more than one country last week? Ireland had their Championships last weekend and the Cuttin Crew Racing Team was represented! Maria Larkin is from Ireland, but school and work brought her to our fine city of Chicago. Last weekend while others were competing in Austin, Maria was in Ireland, competing in their national competition! Maria not only raced well, but came in second, behind Ireland’s 6 time national champion. Pretty amazing!! To see some of the action from last week’s race, click here.

For those who might not be the fastest, there is still a way to compete for the overall. The next race will be held at Mill Race Cyclery in Geneva, IL. For event details, click here.

Women’s Dinner- We’re looking forward to a wonderful evening with friends and lots of great conversations about cycling. The annual women’s dinner is next Saturday at Leigh Thompson’s home in Winnetka and will be catered by Kathy Corbett. This event is open to all women cyclists. Happy New Year

Sunrise-Nov-26-2013-2

Happy New Year! Time to reflect back on our accomplishments of the past year and set goals for the new. 2014 was a good year for women in cycling. We made big strides in seeing more equitable opportunities for women in our sport. Some success stories of 2014 are the documentary by Kathyrn Bertine, “Half the Road”, and the one day women’s race included in the Tour de France, La Course by Tour de France. Locally, there has been a big push for race promoters to have equal payouts for women, many responding favorably to the challenge.

While we’ve made great strides for women in sport, we have a long way to go. Make doing your part to keep the momentum going included your goals. There are some amazing plans underway in our community, so be ready to jump in and have fun!
