March Rolls In…

They say March rolls in like a lion and out like a lamb, well, let’s hope so! I can tolerate a little more winter weather as long as I know more spring-like weather will be coming soon. The new month brings us potentially warmer weather, added daylight and the start of the outdoor road cycling season. Let’s welcome in this new month and all that is ahead.

Half Acre Time Trial Series – Looking for a tough training session before getting your weekend started? Half Acre has you covered for a few weeks! The series begins this evening and continues next Friday and on 3/20 at hpiChicago. For more information, click here.

Movie Night @ BFF Bikes – Attend Movie Night at BFF bikes this Saturday. The featured movie is Wadja, which is about a Saudi Arabian girl going great lengths to get her first bicycle. The event is free. Please rsvp to annie@bffbikes.com.

Key Concepts Cycling Clinic –New to bike racing or want to get a better understanding of how to navigate the road with a little more confidence? Attend this informative clinic next Saturday and give yourself an edge as you prepare for the upcoming cycling season.  This is the first in a series of clinics brought to you by the Chicago Women’s Elite Cycling program (CWEC) and is in conjunction with Half Acre Cycling’s beginner Gapers Block criterium series. Specialized Time Trial Series Race #5 – The final race in the Specialized indoor series will be held next Saturday at Amphibian Multisport. For information on the race or to register, click here.

Kenosha Velosport Spring Training Races –This is the surest sign spring is right around the corner. In its 36th season, this series is like a rite of passage for new racers.  There’s typically a good mix of weather as well. Some race days are balmy and others are downright frigid, but the racers come, nonetheless. For details on the series, click here.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day! Keep your heart pumping and maintain your fitness with cycling. Whether you have big goals for the upcoming season, or just want to be fit to enjoy the great outdoors, cycling will get you there. There are plenty of group fitness classes and competitions to keep you going during the winter months. Check below for what’s ahead.

Chicago Bike Swap – There’s still time and the opportunity to get in on a good deal on bike parts and equipment. Attend the 6th annual Chicago Bike Swap at Jak’s Tap, located at 901 West Jackson Blvd on Saturday from 11am to 4pm. For more information, click here.

Coming Up:

Team Snow Bike Enduro –Fat bikes are fun, but a fat bike team race is even better. The race is just over the border where there’s still plenty of snow and groomed trails. Rentals available if you don’t own a fat bike, so don’t delay and secure your spot. For information on the event, click here.

Specialized Indoor Time Trial Race Series – Event #4 – The next event in this series will be held at Higher Gear in Wilmette on Saturday, February 21. For information or to register, click here.

ABD Indoor TT Series Race #3 – This week’s race is a rolling course, but there’s no coasting on the downhill if you want to win! All the indoor races will be held at the Winfield Central School in Winfield, IL. For details on the event, click here.

Key Words Cycling Clinic – The racing season is coming soon, and each year Half Acre Cycling presents the Gapers Block criterium series for new racers. In advance of the series, Half Acre is partnering with Chicago Women’s Elite Cycling (CWEC) to put on this clinic to prep riders for a great start to the season. This clinic is great for all cyclists, including new racers, experienced racers and commuters. The event will be held at Johnny Sprockets on Saturday, March 7. More details to follow.

Time Trial Weekend

Chicago Bike Winter Art

It’s a time trial kind of weekend in Chicagoland with two options for racing on Sunday. Will you go solo or will you make it a team event? We’re also having a warmup this weekend with temps nearing 40 degrees! Be safe if you’re heading out on the roads and watch for slick spots where the snow has melted. As always, check the weather and check the listings below for cycling adventures ahead!

Chicago Bike Winter Art Show – Looking for a cultural activity that still involves your favorite sport? Attend the Chicago Bike Winter Art Show this evening from 6-11PM at Genesis Art Supply at 2525 N. Elston. For details on the event, click here.

Specialized Indoor Time Trial Race Series – Event #3 – Event #3 is this Sunday at the Village Cycle Sport in Arlington Heights. There are lots of prizes for each race and for the overall competition. For information or to register, click here.

FFC & Trimonster Training Indoor TT Series –There’s no shortage of indoor time trials to keep you fit or in race mode. This series will be held at the Lincoln Park Fitness Formula training center.
