There’s more than a chill in the air, but that doesn’t seem to be keeping hearty Chicagoans from having fun on their bikes. Good luck to all those heading to Barry Roubaix, which is the largest gravel road race in the world! It’s going to be an epic event with over three thousand riders competing on 24, 36 and 62 mile courses. Chicago should be well represented, especially in the women’s fields! For those not heading to Michigan for the weekend, below is a listing of cycling related events.

Kenosha Velosport Spring Training Races #3 –It’s the final race in this spring series and your last chance to execute the perfect strategy for a win. For race information, click here.

Fit Form & Function Clinic –Do you have questions about bike fit or proper positioning while riding your bike? Attend this clinic on Tuesday and get the answers you’re looking for. For information on the event, click here.

Women’s Night Open House and Clothing Swap –Looking to hang out with a great group of cycling enthusiasts or curious about West Town Bikes is all about? Attend this social gathering on Wednesday for an evening of food, friends and cycling. For details on the event, click here.

Coming Up:

Lincoln Park Criterium – This race is located at Montrose and the lakefront and since it’s springtime, you’re almost guaranteed wind and some type of weather. The course has long straight-aways and a hairpin turn, which make for a fun and exciting race. For more information, click here.

The (Unofficial) Illinois State Goldsprints Spring Championships – Get your crit racing on early in the day at the LPC and then spend your evening at this sprint competition. You’ll be raising money for the Northbrook Velodrome resurfacing fund, so it’s a feel- good and worthy cause. For more information, click here.

Road Racing Clinic –Looking for a little more guidance before heading into the Gaper’s Block crit series? Attend this clinic taught by Greg Meeker and gain some valuable knowledge to prepare you for racing your bike. For more information, click here.

Gapers Block Criterium Series – Calling all new racers to the line! It’s springtime and it’s Gapers Block time. This four day series is designed to immerse you in crit racing, by racing the same course and most likely the same competitors, day after day. If you’re new to racing, this is a great opportunity for you! For information on the series, click here.

CWEC’s Development Series Event #2-Want to improve your confidence on the bike? Attend this skills clinic and practice everything from balancing to bumping –safely! The clinic is in conjunction with the Super Crit on April 11. For more information, click here.

Spring Racing and Riding Options

Hold on to your helmets, a great rush of springtime events is heading our way. Make sure you’re ready and map out a course for your best season ever. There are rides, races and plenty of clinics ahead, so do your best to take it all in. Check the listing below for a glimpse at the current cycling events.

Half Acre Time Trial Series – The final Friday night Half Acre/hpiChicago computrainer series event is this evening. One more opportunity to power through a competition ahead of your weekend fun.  For more information, click here.

St Patrick’s Day Ride – Join the Wheeling Wheelmen for their annual spring ride. Ride options include 16, 20 and 36 mile routes in scenic Wauconda, IL. For event details, click here.

Kenosha Velosport Spring Training Races #2 –It’s round #2 in this spring series. Will you be looking to correct the mistakes made in race #1 or add to your success in the overall? It’s a great series and if you’re looking for a tune-up before the main season, these races are a great option. For race information, click here.

Spring Road Racing Begins

We’ve got the luck of the Irish on our side this week with some great weather for the foreseeable future! You can head out the door with a layer or two and feel the wind flow over your face without the fear of frostbite! If you’ve been itching to get outside, this is your opportunity!

Events:

Ray’s Indoor Park Women’s Weekend 2015 –Women’s weekend has kicked off Friday at Ray’s in Milwaukee. Events include coaching by pro mountain bikers, and there are women specific specials all weekend. For more information, click here.

ABD Indoor TT Series Event #4 – This is the last indoor race for this series (the final race in the series will be held outside on April 12). The challenge for this week is to keep the pressure on the pedals on this downhill course. For more information, click here.

Kenosha Velosport Spring Training Races #1 –The outdoor road racing season begins this Sunday with this classic Wisconsin series. The course is not too technical and if you’re looking to get a jump on your competition, this series is a great option. For details on the series, click here.

Coming Up:

Spring Forward

Times, they are a changing! This weekend we turn the clocks ahead begin the journey into longer days and warmer weather. While we’re not out of the woods with the cold, the upcoming forecast is looking promising for riding outside. There’s plenty ahead, inside and out. Attend this informative clinic tomorrow and give yourself an edge as you prepare for the upcoming cycling season.  This is the first in a series of clinics brought to you by the Chicago Women’s Elite Cycling program (CWEC) and is in conjunction with Half Acre Cycling’s beginner Gapers Block criterium series.
