Ready or not, the road racing season gets underway this weekend in Chicago with Lincoln Park on Saturday and the entire Gapers Block series throughout the week. Let’s hope for the best, weather-wise and get this season off to a great start.
Lincoln Park Criterium – The stage is set for tomorrow’s race. A quick preview of the course reveals relatively smooth road conditions, with the exception of some bumps on the backside of the course. Depending on the way the wind is blowing, the rough spots may or may not be a factor in the race. Everything gets underway bright and early tomorrow. For information on the race, click here.
The (Unofficial) Illinois State Goldsprints Spring Championships – Get your crit racing on early in the day at the LPC and then spend your evening at this sprint competition. You’ll be raising money for the Northbrook Velodrome resurfacing fund, so it’s a feel- good and worthy cause. For more information, click here.
Road Racing Clinic –Looking for a little more guidance before heading into the Gaper’s Block crit series? Attend this clinic taught by Greg Meeker and gain some valuable knowledge to prepare you for racing your bike. For more information, click here.
Gapers Block Criterium Series – Calling all new racers to the line! It’s springtime and it’s Gapers Block time. This four day series is designed to immerse you in crit racing, by racing the same course and most likely the same competitors, day after day. Spring Super Criterium – You may not get a motor to power your way through this race, but you’ll still get to race on a real car racing track. This is always a fun course with some great twists, but really only one corner. Plan to make your way out to race and then stay for the skills clinic and make it a great bike racing day. CWEC’s Development Series Event #2-Want to improve your confidence on the bike? Attend this skills clinic and practice everything from balancing to bumping –safely! The clinic is in conjunction with the Super Crit on April 11. For more information, click here.
John Fraser Memorial Time Trial – This is the final race in the indoor series – and it’s outside! The course is 10k with two turnarounds. Be prepared for a fast all-out effort that will keep you on your toes, navigating the course. For information on the race, click here.
