Happy May Day! Looks like the new month is bringing the warm weather we’ve been dreaming about for so long. There’s an assortment of cycling activities ahead including mountain biking, road riding and track cycling. Get out and try a little of everything, especially if you haven’t tried it before!
Women’s Dirt Days Event #1 – It’s time once again to hit the trails with Pretty Fast Women’s Cycling, headed up by Becky Mikrut. Event #1 is at Kettle Moraine in southern Wisconsin. No matter what your level, this group is welcoming and all about having fun on mountain bikes. For more information, click here.
Urbana Grand Prix –This is a great course which features one technical turn, changes in elevation, and a stroll through the park! It’s a lot of fun and not too far away. For race information, click here.
LaCrosse Omnium – It’s three days of racing which includes a time trial, road race and criterium. It’s a bit of a drive, but well worth it to get in some great racing. For details on the event, click here.
Single Bong Time Trial – It’s time once again to head to southern Wisconsin for the first in a series of three time trials. The course is a single loop with four right turns on a rolling course. It’s probably the safest tt course around since you never cross traffic. For more information on the event, click here.
Monsters of the Midway – Next weekend is Mother’s Day and so is Monsters of the Midway (MOM). The course is located on the Midway Plaisance on the University of Chicago campus. This annual race is a favorite among local riders. The course features long straight-aways and wide open corners and since the course is so close to the lakefront, wind is always a factor! For details on the event, click here.
Thursday Night Track Racing – Opening night for the 2015 track racing season at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Northbrook is Thursday, May 14. There will also be a pre-season social and bike swap on Monday, May 11. Come out, pick up your race number, see if there are any good deals, hang out with your favorite riders and get ready for the racing to begin.
