Mass Ave Criterium

We’re heading into August, but there’s still plenty of racing on the horizon. From big to small, dirt to road, there’s something for every cyclist. Check the listings below and make the best of this sunny summer weekend on your bike.

Events:

Mass Ave Criterium – This weekend’s big event is the Mass Ave Criterium in downtown Indianapolis. There’ll be fast racing, big prize money and an all-day festival with lots of fans. For information on the event, click here.

Women’s Dirt Days #4 – The group is headed back to Palos and just in time for a preview of next week’s Palos Meltdown race. As always, these events are open to women of any ability and are a great opportunity to have fun on the trails. For more information, click here.

Bryce Master 19K Time Trial –Looking for a fast time trial course? This course is flat with only a few sweeping turns, and with the improved road surface, you’re sure to hit top cruising speeds. For information on the event, click here.

Two Rivers Road Race – This is a flatlander’s road race, located near Kankakee. It’s also the ABR Illinois State Road Race, so there are lots of jerseys on the line. Head south on Sunday and be prepared to ride! For details on the event, click here.

Track Events:

Madison Night – There are many exciting races on the track, but the Madison is always a crowd favorite. It’s a mass start event with two-person teams exchanging positions throughout the race by hand sling. It takes a lot of skill and good tactics to do well. Come out to race or spectate, it’s going to be a good night! For information on the races, click here.

Coming Up:

ABR Illinois State Criterium Championship – Located in Wood Dale, this course is an oldie but goodie. It’s not too technical, it’s close to home and there’s another jersey on the line! Check the ABR website for details.

Villa Park Grand Prix – Looking for a race that’s local and is a basic, flat, four corner crit? Villa Park is your answer! Click here for information on the event.

Palos Meltdown – The trails have finally dried up and they are in good condition for this local mountain bike race. This year’s course will feature a newly developed section of trail, so it should be better than ever. For more information, click here.

Double Bong Time Trial – We’ve gone around once, added a half and now it’s a double for the Wisconsin State time trial championships on the Bong TT course. For details on the event, click here.

Intelligentsia Cup

The heat has finally made it to Chicago and just in time for the hot competition you’ll find at the races this weekend. Things kick off this evening with the Beverly Classic and continue on all weekend. Get out, race, spectate and have some summer fun.

Events:

2015 Intelligentsia Cup –The Intelligentsia Cup series begins today with the Beverly Classic, followed by the South Chicago Bike Race and finishing off the weekend with the Illinois State Road race in Willow Springs. For information on all the races, click here.

Dr Craig C Schultz 40K Memorial TT – This 40K TT in Cordova, Illinois is a super flat out and back course with smooth roads! Can’t get much better for super-fast times, so if you’re looking to PR in this distance, this is a great course. For race information, click here.

Track Events:

Sprinters Omnium III – Tomorrow is the third and final sprinters omnium for the season at the Ed Rudolph velodrome. The event with feature match sprints, 4 lap scratch races and win and out. For details on the event, click here.

Fast Friday 2 & Master’s Prep – This weekend Indy has a big lineup of racing. Whether you’re gearing up for a National event or just looking for some good competition, this event will be worth your while. The featured races will be the elimination, points the scratch. Coming Up:

2015 Intelligentsia Cup Continued – The racing continues next week with two very technical courses and another two that are a little less so. First up is the Waukegan crit, which is a four corner crit in the downtown area. Friday the series heads to Elmhurst for slightly technical course and a slight grade into the start/finish area. Saturday is the Lake Bluff crit, which is technical due to tight corners and narrow roads. Finally, the series wraps up in Chicago with the Chicago crit in the west loop. This is another 4 corner crit, which is a bit more forgiving than Saturday. Head out for all the fun! For details, click here.

Venus de Miles – If you’re looking to spend the day doing all the things you love, then you should head out to the Venus de Miles ride (or run) this Sunday. This women’s event begins with either a 25 or 62 mile ride and then you’ll be welcomed back to food and all types of pampering activities. The event benefits the Greenhouse Scholars Foundation. It’s Tour Time

It’s Tour de France time and if you’ve lacked that extra bit of motivation for your riding, the Tour can certainly get you back on the right track. There’s plenty of options for racing, so there’s no excuses! Get out, have fun and then go home and watch the Tour!

Events:

Winfield Criterium – This race has become a local favorite. The course winds its way through a suburban neighborhood, climbing to its highest point and then descending down to the start/finish with a few twists and turns. It’s fun and challenging. For race information, click here.

Wisconsin State Road Race Championships – It’s back to Spring Prairie for a climbing-fest for the state’s championship jerseys. It’s also back to a retro course, which features a flat start/finish line instead of a hill. Are you up for the challenge? For race information, click here.

Indy Crit – The crit is in the heart of downtown and features a figure 8 course with the start and finish on bricks near Monument Circle. For details on the event, click here.

Wolfgang Freitag Memorial 2 Person Time Trial – It’s all about teamwork in this race, so pair up with your favorite training partner and plan to work hard together to cover the distance – fast! For details on the event, click here.

Track Events:

IL State Masters Track Championships – Calling all master’s track racers. Head out to Northbrook tomorrow for a full day of races. The event will feature both mass start and individual races. For more information, click here.

10 & 5 Mile Record Attempts – Next Thursday we’ll make another attempt to set new track records in both the 5 and 10 mile distances. For information on the races, click here.

Fast Friday 2 & Master’s Prep – Next weekend Indy has a big lineup of racing. Happy 4th of July! It’s time for summertime fun with backyard barbecue’s, parades and hanging out with friends and families. It’s also time to enjoy your favorite outdoor activity; cycling! This weekend we finally seem to be getting a break in the weather, so get out and enjoy!

Events:

Women’s Dirt Day’s #3 – Hitting the trails is a great way to get-away over the holiday weekend. You won’t actually have to travel far, as this event will be held on the trails at Palos. It’s always fun to get in a little off-road time and hanging out with a great bunch of ladies will make the experience even better. For details on the event, click here.

Track Events:

Amy Tremelling Memorial Points Race & Ladies Night – This coming Thursday is Ladies Night at Northbrook, featuring a high-powered points race in honor of  former stand-out bike racer, Amy Tremelling. The evening is sponsored by BFF Racing, which is totally fitting for a women’s night! For details on the events, click here.

Team Pursuit Showdown – The team pursuit is one of my favorite races on the track. It’s challenging, but if done well, it’s like a beautifully choreographed ballet. Organize your team and head to Indianapolis. For details on the event, click here.

Midwest Women’s Road Race Championships – This monumental women’s race is next weekend! The course is a 14.6 mile loop with a short uphill kicker, sweeping rollers and flat sections through the farmlands of Ohio. It also includes sections once used in the 1980 Olympic qualifying event, which featured three-time Tour de France winner, Greg LeMond. The course starts in the small town of Zanesfield Ohio and also goes through the quaint village of Alexandria. For race information, click here.
