Instead of a baton, you’ll need a bike to complete an exchange in this weekend’s relay race. The excitement’s been building for weeks as cross racers get ready for the first big event of the season. And, although the seasons are shifting, there’s still plenty of the summer season racing ahead. Read on for cycling events in our area

Illinois State Time Trial Championships – Nothing worth having comes easy and that’ll certainly be the case in the state time trial championships. The race is located in Paw Paw and features smooth pavement, but with rolling terrain and one turnaround. Riders will compete for both 20K and 40K distances, depending on age groups. For race details here.

Relay Cross at Jackson Park – It’s the pre-season tease with relay cross this weekend. This lighthearted event gives cross racers a taste of what’s ahead. It’s competitive and fun, so grab your partner and plan to be a part of the action. For event details, click here.

Boulevard Lakefront Tour – Looking for an adventure in the city? The Boulevard Lakefront Tour is back and should be better than ever. Choose from distances of 14 to 63 miles and tour parts of the City you might typically never get a chance to see. For information on the event, click here.

Track Events:

Illinois State Points Race Championships – The championship races continue for track racers at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome. This week it’s the points race, which is an endurance race of sorts where points are awarded for sprints every 5 laps; 5 for first, 3 for second, 2 for third and 1 for forth. At the end of the race, the person with the most amount of points wins. It’ll be an exciting night of racing, so come out and race or spectate! For information on the races, click here.

Coming Up:

Bloomington Criterium – Don’t hang up the road bikes just yet. The Bloomington criterium comes close to the end of the road season, but it’s anything but boring. It’s an eight corner crit with climbing and descending each lap. It’s pretty technical and being able to manage your momentum is key. For race information, click here.

Return to Cherry Valley Time Trial – This Midwest 20K time trial is a good mix of trees and cornfields and begins in the Deer Run Forest Preserve. There are four corners and a turnaround, but it’s not too technical. For race information, click here.

Have a great weekend!
