Bloomington Criterium

Bloomington Crit

It’s the final weekend of August, but we’re not quite ready to transition to the fall season. There’s a full slate of road and track races, including championship events. Make the most of the warm weather and head out the door on your bike!

Events:

Bloomington Criterium – Don’t hang up the road bikes just yet. The Bloomington criterium comes close to the end of the road season, but it’s anything but boring. It’s an eight corner crit with climbing and descending each lap. It’s pretty technical and being able to manage your momentum is key. For race information, click here.

Return to Cherry Valley Time Trial – This Midwest 20K time trial is a good mix of trees and cornfields and begins in the Deer Run Forest Preserve. There are four corners and a turnaround, but it’s not too technical. For race information, click here.

Track Events:

Illinois State Track Timed Events – One of the original dates was rained out, so they have rescheduled the Team Sprint, Individual Pursuit, Team Pursuit and the Women’s 500 meters events for this Monday, August 31. For information on the races, click here.

Illinois State Madison Championships –This Thursday’s track championship race is the Madison. It’s a team event, which is all about endurance, speed and most importantly, good exchanges. For information on the races, click here.

Coming Up:

Rapha Pop-Up – There’s a lot of excitement brewing about Rapha Pop Up Chicago. They’ll kick things off with a grand opening event on Thursday, September 3, and throughout the month of September there’ll be weekly rides and events. The first ride will be on Saturday, September 5. For details on all the events, click here.

MATTS Finale TT – This time trial course in Harvard, Illinois, is used a few times during the racing season. The roads are pretty pristine for the early part of the course, but are a little bumpy before the turnaround. The course, at 34.7K is a little shy of the standard 40K, but it’s a local favorite. It’s the final in the MATT’s series, so if you’re in the running, you better be there! For race information, click here.

Have a great weekend!
