Snow Cross

SnowGlobe

We’ve been coasting through this fall on easy street as far as the weather’s concerned. That’ll all change later this evening as the snow moves in over the Midwest. But, if life gives you lemons, and it this case, snow, then make lemonade, or better yet, take a ride in the snow! Get out early and make some tracks. For those racing this weekend, it’ll be an adventure, but a great opportunity to let your skills shine!

Events:

Wisconsin State Cyclo-Cross Championships – Wisconsin has its own version of the Battle of Waterloo, but the victory will come in the form of a championship jersey (if you’re from Wisconsin). This is sure to be a great race, as Waterloo is a big cycling town. For race details, click here.

Chicross Cup Series Race 10 – This week is the final regular race in this cross series, with the state championship to follow at Montrose beach. The Melas Park Racin Basin course is located in Mount Prospect and it’s famous for a giant retention basin, which the promoters make good use of to make the race challenging. Other features are deep sandy volleyball courts and last year they added a grass maze. For race info, click here.

Coming Up:

Jingle Cross – The big guns will be heading to Iowa City in two weeks to take on the challenges of Jingle Cross. There’s racing all weekend for all categories, including the top UCI categories. The course is always challenging, but will there be an extra element of difficulty with the weather? Only time will tell! For race information, click here.

Chicross Cup Series Race #11 (FINAL) – The series finale is also the Illinois State Cyclo-Cross championship. Located at the lakefront and Montrose, this course offers a little bit of everything. There’s climbing, descending off camber, sand and power sections. The unknown is the weather; will it be warm and dry or will it be cold and snowy? You’ll have to wait and see! For race details, click here.

Have a great weekend and Happy Thanksgiving!

Double Cross Weekend

Snoopy LeavesThe leaves may have fallen from the trees, but there’s no complaining about the weather we’ve had this fall. Some days have been downright warm, while others are just crisp, cool days. This weekend it looks like we’re in for another spectacular round of weather, with Sunday being the pick day. No excuses, get out and ride and enjoy being outside!
Events:
Chi-cross Cup Series Races 8 & 9 – It’s a double-header weekend with the Hilton Indian Lakes Resort races. These are always a favorite, as it turns into a two-day party weekend, since many of the participants opt to stay at the hotel on Saturday night. The course is on a golf course, but it’s anything but boring as it includes a steep hill, sand traps and some grassy section with rolling terrain. For race details, click here.
Cam-Rock Cross – If you head north to Madison, you can also have a two race weekend with Cam Rock on Saturday and TBD Cross on Sunday. Cam Rock Park is well known to mountain bikers with some great technical riding, so hopefully the promoters will include a bit of the technical aspects of the park along with the typical cross power sections. For race information, click here.
TBD Cross – This race will leave you guessing what the course will be until the gun goes off. It’s located in Hiestand Park in Madison, Wisconsin. Solve the mystery and head north for a little fun! For race information, click here.
Track Events:
Major Taylor Birthday Celebration Ride – A group of dedicated riders is working to keep the velodrome on the south side of Chicago alive. One of the events they have coming up is a tribute ride to the famous Chicagoan, Major Taylor, who overcame racial barriers and dominated track cycling in the US and overseas. The ride will be next Saturday, November 21st. The plans have not been finalized yet, but you can reach out to Marcus Moore at yojimbo.chicago@gmail.com for any updates.

Sadie Hawkins Style Ride

Sadie Hawkins

After a spectacular week of warm weather, the weekend temps will be more typical to this time of year, which isn’t too bad at all. Lots of great events ahead, so be sure to get outside and enjoy all this Fall has to offer!

Events:

Estabrook Park & Beer Garden Cross – I say it every year and I’ll say it again, this is one of my favorite cross courses. It has some great technical elements and not too many power sections. It’s a beautiful park and with a free beer and brat for every legal aged racer, it’ll be a blast! For race information, click here.

Sadie Hawkins Style Ride – This is not your average race, but it’s fun and challenging, just the same. You’ll need to dress for the occasion and then you and a teammate will head out in search of treasures around the city. The team that makes it to all the destinations first wins, but there are lots of other surprises along the way. The best part is that all proceeds go to the Chicago Women’s Health Center. For event information, click here. If you are unable to attend the event, but would still like to donate to the CWHC, click here.

Chicross Cup Series Race #7 – Moving right along, the Chicross Cup series heads to Emricson Park in Woodstock for Psi-clocross for Life. This course has evolved from an open power course to a more mixed skill cross course with a steep hill, a wooded section and even a sand pit. Practice your technical skills before heading out on Sunday! For race information, click here.
