Afterglow

glowing bikes

The holiday season is upon us with parties and get-togethers, which makes keeping a strict training schedule pretty tough. You can still enjoy the season and maintain your fitness, but you may have to get a little creative. You can do it, and you’ll be much happier if you make the effort! If you’re looking for one more competitive event before the year is over, you’re in luck with the Afterglow race this weekend. Read below for more details.

Events:

The race course is located in the city on the Douglas Park Golf Course and features sand traps, off camber berms and other little technical challenges. Proceeds from the race go to the youth programs at Blackstone Bicycle Works and West Town Bikes, so it’s an event you can feel good about doing. For race information, click here.

Big Decisions Weekend

Question

With two major cyclo-cross events scheduled for this weekend, I’m sure there’s been a lot of thinking about what to do. Typically Jingle Cross is the same weekend as Thanksgiving, allowing racers to do both races without any conflict. Not so this time around. Whatever you choose, it’ll all be great because we’ve got spectacular weather forecasted for this first weekend of December. Get out and enjoy!!

Events:

Jingle Cross – The big guns will be heading to Iowa City to take on Jingle Cross. There’s racing all weekend for all categories, including the top UCI categories. The course is always challenging, and the competition will certainly match. For race information, click here.

Global Fat Bike Day – Do you love your fat bike? If you do, here’s your chance to join a group ride for all ages and abilities to ride together. The ride will be Saturday, December 5th from 10am till 11:30am, and will begin at the Wolf Road Woods (Palos). The ride is organized by the Chicago Area Mountain Bikers Association (cambr). For more information on the ride or other events through cambr, click here.

Chicross Cup Series Race #11 (FINAL) – The series finale is also the Illinois State Cyclo-Cross championship. Located at the lakefront and Montrose, this course offers a little bit of everything. There’s climbing, descending off camber, sand and power sections. The weather will it be warm and dry, so your clothing choice should be easy. The big question is what will the sand conditions be, as it is ever-changing along the lakefront. Good luck racers! For race details, click here.
