It’s an action-packed weekend for Chicago-area cyclists! Many local racers headed south to compete in the Joe Martin Stage race in Arkansas. The pro 1-2 fields started racing yesterday, while the 3-4 and masters categories will begin tomorrow. The results are always posted quickly, so you can keep up-to-date with your favorite rider’s progress. For race information, click here. If you’re staying closer to home, there are plenty of cycling events to keep you riding all weekend. Check below for some local options.
Women’s Track Cycling Clinic – We’re all geared up and ready for tomorrow’s women’s clinic! If you’re at all curious about racing or riding on the track, be sure to join us! We’ll cover everything from the basics of riding a fixed gear bike to track racing tactics. The track season begins mid-May at the Ed Rudolph velodrome, so this clinic is perfectly timed for you to start the season off right. For clinic information click here.
Whitnall Park Criterium –This course is a Wisconsin classic. It’s located in a park near Milwaukee and the course loops around the perimeter. There’s a fun descent and climb which is not-too-tough, if you manage your momentum. For race information, click here.
Mad City Velo Criterium –This D-shaped, 1K course is held in an industrial park. There are a few corners, but they’re pretty wide open, so it’s not too technical. The race is located near Madison, so once you’re finished, you can spend a little time in a fun city before heading home! For race information, click here.
Mooresville Challenge – Head over to the Indianapolis area for a circuit-like crit course that touts a pack splitter hill. Plan ahead if you want to race, as it’s an early start and you need to factor in the time change. For race details, click here.
Monday Night Training Sessions – New to the track or want to work on track racing tactics? Attend these weekly training clinics held each Monday night from 6:30PM till 9:30PM at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Northbrook. The clinics begin this Monday, April 25. For track information, click here.
Lincoln Park Criterium – You don’t often find a bike race within city limits, but XXX-Racing brings us this great event. Located at Montrose and the lakefront, this course offers its famous hairpin turn and typically a lot of wind. For race information, click here.
Muskego Park Criterium – This is one of my favorite crit courses. It’s another course held in a park where the race is run on the loop around the facility. It has a fun descent with a big sweeper corner and a two-step climb on the opposite end. For race information, click here.
HillBilly Gravel Grinder – For those who are into gravel and adventure, this is one epic ride for you. It’s a 100 mile gravel course, located west of LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Cue sheets are provided, but it’s an unsupported ride. For details on the event, click here.
Have a great weekend!
