Transition Weekend of Racing

bloomington crit

This weekend is a transition weekend for cycling. With state championship jerseys on the line for the road and the first cyclo-cross race of the season, we’re seeing that transition from summer to fall racing. There’s still so much fun ahead, check the listings below for a few options.

Events:

Bloomington Criterium – Head south for this year’s Illinois State Criterium championships in Bloomington. It’s a fun course in the downtown area which has climbs, descents and plenty of corners. For race information, click here.

Jackson Park Relay Cross –The start of cross season in Chicago kicks off with this lighthearted and competitive team event. The race fills up fast, so at this point if you’re not registered, you may be waitlisted or a spectator, but don’t miss out, it’s always lots of fun. For race information, click here.

Return to Cherry Valley 20K TT – It’s round two for this course in 2016. This course was used earlier in the spring when the tree cover was much less and the temps were a little cooler. For race information, click here.

Track Racing:

We’re close to wrapping up the 2016 season at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome. The next two Thursday’s will bring plenty of action and a lot of fun. This Thursday we’ll have the Illinois State Madison championship. This is a unique race where racers fling their teammates back into the field, just before exiting for a rest. It’s crazy and a whole lot of fun. Come out to race or come out to see what track cycling is all about. For race information, click here.

Coming Up:

Gateway Cup – It’s the season finale for heavy-hitter road races. The Gateway Cup includes four races over the Labor Day weekend in St Louis. The courses are challenging and the competition is tough as well. If you’re looking for one more chance to mix it up on the road, be sure to head south for this event. For race information, click here.

Bryce Master 30K TT – Located in Garden Prairie, this course is well known by time trial specialists. It’s a little rangy and isn’t completely flat, but a good course to put in a good effort. For race information, click here.
