Chicago Bike Winter Art Show

winter-bike-art

We’ve got a mixed bag of weather this weekend, so the hearty will still get their training in outdoors, but it’s nearly March and spending a few more hours on the trainer isn’t so bad for the rest of us. There’s plenty of indoor cycling activities to take part in this weekend, including an art show. Whatever you do, enjoy the journey on your bike and get ready because spring is right around the corner.

Events:

Chicago Bike Winter Art Show – The 20th annual art show is this Friday and Saturday at Convert Loft on Lincoln Avenue. Mix and mingle with fellow cyclists while enjoying cycling-specific artwork. For more information, click here.

UCI World Cup Track Cycling – World Cup track cycling is here! This Friday through Sunday, the Velo Sports Center in Los Angeles will be host to this UCI event which will feature all the crowd favorites, including the Keirin, the Madison and the Team Pursuit, among others. Kenosha Velosport Spring Training Criterium Series – A sure sign that spring is on its way is the Kenosha Training Criterium Series. Many of us made our entry into the sport by trying a few of these pre-season races. They’re local and low-key, but just enough to get your season started. The races will be held on March 12, 19 and 26. For more information, click here.

Plan Ahead:

HAC Women-Trans Gender Neutral Beginner Clinic – Are you interested in racing your bike, but want to cut out some of the learning curve? Make plans to attend this beginner clinic on March 12. They’ll cover a variety of topics including race strategy, cycling gear and more. For more information or to register, click here.

Women’s Track Cycling Clinic – Ever wonder what it’s like to ride a fixed gear bike or ride on a velodrome? Attend this beginner women’s clinic on April 22 at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome and learn everything from the basics to trying your hand at some race strategy. It’s all in a low-key environment to help you overcome any fears or just get an understanding without feeling pressured. More details to follow, but be sure to put the date on your calendar.

Have a great weekend.

Winter Bike Swap

2017bikeswap

The conditions are favorable for riding outside this weekend. For those looking for an adventure on the trails, there’s still a bit of snow and enough cold to keep it for Saturday, if you head north. Around town the chill will ease as the weekend rolls on, so with a dry road, you’re free to roll! There’s a sampling of cycling related events headed our way. Check the listings below for details.

Events:

Fat Abominable Snow Bike Scramble – Looking for an opportunity to race your fat bike in a casual setting? Head up to Silver Lake Park in Wisconsin for a lighthearted off-road race. Proceeds from the race go to funding the trail system, so it’s a feel-good/fun event! For more information, click here.

Winter Bike Swap 2017 – Looking for another opportunity to buy or sell some cycling equipment? Head to Jaks Tap from 11am until 4pm on Saturday. This is a bit easier to attend if you’re a city dweller and it’s a pretty low-key environment. For event information, click here.

Coming Up:

Rapha’s February Lecture Series – This Wednesday’s lecture is on Cross Training. Newt Cole of Morningbird Studio will be on hand to talk about training for cyclists. The event will be held at the Chicago Rapha Clubhouse. For more information or to rsvp, click here.

Plan Ahead:

Women’s Trans/Gender Neutral Beginning Road Clinic – Are you looking to get into bike racing but would like to know some of the ins and outs before you step up to the line? Plan to attend this clinic sponsored by Half Acre Cycling on March 12. For more information, click here.

Skyway Classic Criterium Series – Take the skills you learn at the road clinic and put them to the test in this beginner criterium series. It’s four days of racing, so you’ll have an opportunity to keep trying day after day to achieve your goals. The series goes from April 3-6 at Calumet Park on the south side of the city.

Have a great weekend!
