We’re in for a wet weekend around here, but there are many hearty souls that’ll brave the elements for an exciting challenge. This weekend has two gravel events; one local and on not-so-far away. You can bet no matter what the weather, they’ll be well attended. We have a full schedule of rides and races. Check below for details.
Chicago Women’s Monthly Ride (WOMO Ride) – Meet and ride with women of Chicago! The first of this monthly series is this Saturday. The ride will depart from Wicker Park and head north to Highland Park. There’ll be a no-drop option as well as a faster, more spirited ride. Barry Roubaix – This Saturday, many local riders will be getting their gravel grind on in Michigan in this early season challenge. The race offers 22, 36 and 62 mile courses, with categories across the board, including open, age group, single speed and tandem. For event information, click here.
Kenosha Velosport Spring Training Criterium Series – It’s the third and final weekend for this pre-season series in Kenosha. One more chance to get in a good workout and test your fitness before the official season begins. For more information, click here.
Pastry-Brest- Pastry – Do you think riding your bike, eating doughnuts, and having a beer sounds fun? The organizers of this gravel ride in North Aurora do! Take part in this 60 mile journey, where 60% of the riding surface is unpaved. Get out, have some fun and get some miles under your belt before the season gets going. ABD Cycling Indoor TT Series – It’s time for the indoor races to head outside. This race is the final in this time trial series. It’s a ten mile course, which departs from Maple Park. For race information, click here.
Great Dane Velo Club Spring Series – Looking for some early season criterium action, then head to Madison, Wisconsin on April 2 and April 8. The course is located in an industrial park, which isn’t too technical and great for this time of the year. For more information, click here.
Skyway Classic Criterium Series – Calling all beginner racers to the line for this annual pre-season criterium training series. It’s four consecutive days of racing, giving you the chance test what works best for you in racing situations. The series runs from April 3 through 6 at Calumet Park. Women’s Track Cycling Clinic – Ever wonder what it’s like to ride a fixed gear bike or ride on a velodrome? Attend this beginner women’s clinic on April 22 at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome and learn everything from the basics to trying your hand at some race strategy. It’s all in a low-key environment to help you overcome any fears or just get an understanding without feeling pressured. For event details, click here.
