Bikes and Beer

It’s April, so dodging raindrops is a necessary skill to keep up your outdoor activities. We’ve had some good downpours during the week, but it looks like we’re going to get a pass for the weekend, yay! It’s a holiday weekend, so there are no races, but there are some fun rides to hop onto. Check the listing below for upcoming ride options.

Events:

WoMo Ride – This edition of the women’s ride will be led by the ladies of BFF Cycling. Join them as they journey from the city to Highland Park. As with all WoMo rides, there is a no-drop option as well as a more spirited paced group. For more information, click here.

BFF Bikes to Beer Ride – This month’s beer ride will head to the Half Acre Brewery. The ride will depart from BFF Bikes on Armitage at Noon this Saturday. Take a break from fast-paced riding and enjoy a leisurely ride with a beer break in-between. For event information, click here.

Coming Up:

Women’s Track Cycling Clinic – Ever wonder what it’s like to ride a fixed gear bike or ride on a velodrome? Attend this beginner women’s clinic on April 22 (rain date Sunday, April 23) at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome and learn everything from the basics to trying your hand at some race strategy. It’s all in a low-key environment to help you overcome any fears or just get an understanding without feeling pressured. For event details, click here.

Cherry Valley 20K Time Trial – This is a fun but challenging course. It offers up rolling hills and chip and seal pavement, which can test your focus. The course is used in the spring, and then again in late summer, so the natural shelter from trees varies significantly based on the season. Set your course marker this spring and then plan to test yourself again late summer. For race information, click here.
Plan Ahead:

Hot Dog Practice Crits – You’ll feel like a hot dog racer after you get in plenty of practice at racing. Take part in this weekday evening race series held on April 27, May 23 and June 27. The course is located at 87th and Lakeshore and it features 1/3 mile straightaways and two 180 degree turns. For more information, click here.

Lincoln Park Criterium – This has become a spring favorite in the Chicago racing scene. It’s so close to home and has a unique course that includes a hairpin turn. Make plans to come out on Saturday, April 29. For more information, click here.

Have a great weekend!
