Tour of Little Switzerland

After several weeks of intense racing on the road, this weekend offers a little reprieve – unless you head north. Your local options include track racing, a group ride, of which there are many, or the trails. Whatever you choose, the sun will be shining and the temps will be perfect for a great weekend outside.

Events:

Tour of Little Switzerland – Exciting road racing continues this weekend with a three stage omnium in New Glarus, Wisconsin. The two day event includes a time trial, road race and criterium. The series will put your climbing legs to the test, as the area is known for its hills. After the racing, you can take in some of the beautiful scenery and maybe even enjoy a local beer. Track Cycling:

Illinois State Master’s Track Championships – The Illinois State Master’s track championships will be held at the Ed Rudolph velodrome tomorrow. Events will include all timed and team events. For more information, click here.

Coming Up:

Countryside Criterium – This race brings crit racing back to the local level. It’ll still be fast and furious, but it’ll be close to home and the field will be made up of mostly local friends. Head out to Countryside for a four corner crit that’ll be fun to race and easy to get to. For race information, click here.

Women’s Dirt Days Ride #4 – The ladies will head back to Palos for a fun-filled day on the trails. For anyone looking to race the Meltdown on Sunday, this will be a perfect opportunity to check out the trails and get a good mental picture for the next day. For ride information, click here.

Brian Akers 19K Time Trial – Looking for a time trial that’s flat, fast and has sweeping corners to keep your speed high? Head out to Harvard, Illinois and your wish will be granted! For more information, click here.

Palos Meltdown – In its 11th year, the Palos Meltdown offers up a great mountain bike race with both technical and flowy sections. Race hard and stick around for a fun and festive afternoon at the trails. For race information, click here.

Summer Cycling Fun

Summer fun moves folks from indoors to the great outdoors. Cities and towns seem to come alive with activities bringing people together. This weekend is great example of communities being brought together with music, food and of course, bike riding. There’s so much to be a part of and the weather is just grand! Check below for a few options.

Events:

Intelligentsia Cup Continues – The series continues with the final three races in Elmhurst, Lake Bluff and Chicago. Elmhurst and Lake Bluff are relatively technical crit courses. Both races loop in the community for a big neighborhood festival. Sunday’s final race in Chicago is a somewhat basic four corner crit and has a bit of an industrial feel. Venus de Miles – This all-women’s ride is on Saturday. You can choose from a fully supported 25 or 60 mile route. The event includes lunch and lots of pampering upon your return. Kirkie Vei Time Trial– This 20K time trial in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin is unlike the previous week’s flat course. This course includes rolling hills, ninety degree turns and a few good straight-aways. For race information, click here.

WBR Grand Fondo – Summer fun includes bike riding, baseball and barbeque, and you’ll get all three when you participate in the WBR Grand Fondo! The ride will depart from Wilmette and head north to Kenosha. There you’ll be treated to a baseball game and barbeque! The event is on Sunday, and proceeds from the event go to World Bicycle Relief. Rapha Women’s 100 – Join the Chicago edition of this global ride on Sunday. The ride will depart from the Rapha Clubhouse in Wicker Park and head to the North Shore for a 100K loop. For ride details, click here.

Bikes & Beer Ride – It’s a special edition of BFF’s Bike’s to Beer series. This Sunday, join a group departing from BFF bikes as they head down to the Goose Island Grand Prix, the final race in the Intelligentsia Cup series. For ride information, click here.

Track Cycling:

Madison Night – The Madison is one of the most exciting track races for both riders and spectators. It’s teams of two competing in a points race. Teammates swap places in the race by a hand sling, giving one rider relief and the other getting into the race. Come out and see what it’s all about. For more information, click here.

Coming Up:

Hot Dog Crits – The final event in this series is on Tuesday evening. One more chance to hone your crit skills and go for hot dog status in the local peloton. Intelligentsia Cup

In just a few hours the biggest road racing series in Illinois will kick off. The quiet little community of Beverly will be buzzing with the energy only a bike race can provide. Whether you ride or race, there’s plenty to do during these spectacular summer months. Get out and enjoy! Check the listings below for a few upcoming options.

Events:

Intelligentsia Cup –Ten days of high powered racing around Chicago begins today in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood. The series loops around the city and suburbs and features both criterium and road race courses. For details on all the events, click here.

ABR Midwest Regional Championship Time Trial – This super-flat course is great for speed and the opportunity to set a PR for this distance. Head out to Cordova for this 40K and set your sights on a championship ride. For more information, click here.

Track Cycling:

George Garner Memorial Keirin Night – The keirin is one of the most exciting track races, especially for spectators. Riders are pulled up to speed by a motorized bike and when the motor pulls off, the race begins. Women’s Ride Weekend

It’s a big weekend for ladies in the Chicago area with women’s rides scheduled both Saturday and Sunday. Whatever you choose, there are plenty of options ahead from the road to the track and in the dirt! Check the listings below for upcoming events.

Events:

WoMo Ride – This month’s women’s ride is being led by the Union Cycling team. The ride will depart from 1501 North Damen at 7:30am with a pickup at Pratt and Ridge at 8am. The ride will head north to Highland Park. On the return trip, the group may split into faster or more moderately paced groups. For ride information, click here.

Womo/Border Ride – For those looking for a few more miles, join the group continuing on from the WoMo ride turnaround point. The ride will continue on to the Wisconsin border and return to the city for a full century ride. For more information, click here.

Indy Criterium – You’ll have to head to Indianapolis if you want to race a crit this weekend, but it will be well worth the drive. It’s a fast figure 8 course around monument circle. The race draws riders from around the Midwest and there’s plenty of money and prizes on the line to heat up the competition. For race details, click here.

Hersher Two Person Time Trial – This weekend’s race is all about teamwork. If you’ve taken part in a team time trial, you already know how rewarding it can be. If you haven’t, then you should make sure to give this event a try. Grab your teammate and choose from either 25K or 50k and plan to work together to maximize your team’s potential. Rapha 100 Women’s Training Ride – If you’re not able to attend the women’s ride on Saturday, no worries! Join the training ride on Sunday from Rapha. The ride is geared towards getting you ready for the upcoming Rapha 100 ride later in July. For event information, click here.

Big Marsh Short Track Series Event #4 – This is the fourth and final event in this off-road short track series. Head out for some fast paced racing in the dirt. For event information, click here.

Track Cycling

Sprinters Dream Omnium Series Event #3 – It’s the final event in this sprinters series. The event begins with flying 200’s to set up pairings for the match sprints. The event will also include the Belgian win and out, a four lap scratch race and time trial record attempts. If you want to fine tune your sprinting and race tactics, this is a great event.
