Pre-Holiday Weekend

We’re heading into the Thanksgiving holiday week and there’s no shortage of cycling events to keep you fit and fast. There’s also a bit of roller coaster weather, which is sure to keep you on your toes. This weekend we’ll see rain before the temps dip down. Be prepared before you head out the door and make sure you make the best clothing and gear selection to keep you happy while you pedal. Check the listings below for some outdoor options.

Events:

Major Taylor Cross Cup – There are two big days of racing in Indianapolis this weekend. The series will feature both amateur and UCI elite level events. The series will be held at the Indy Cycloplex, which will provide for a challenging course featuring hills, off camber sections and grass. For more information, click here.

Hugh Jass Bike Series Event #3 – We pick up this series at the Kegal/Alpha trails near Whitnall Park (a classic road course location). As with every Hugh Jass Race there are fat bike rentals, tech service, post-race beverages, parking lot contests and more. If you’re in for some light-hearted fat bike fun, this series is for you. For more information, click here.

Furrow Euro – Cross country running meets cyclo-cross in this dual discipline event held on Furrow Farm. Head south to El Paso for this unique cross experience. It’s a wide-open course that includes a few rollers, twists and turns. For more information, click here.

Chicross Cup Event #10 – It’s another series course change. The Racin Basin in Melas Park has been replaced by a course in Wheeling Heritage Park. It’ll be anyone’s guess what the promoters will dream up for course design, but it’s sure to be good. For more information, click here.

Bikes to Beer – For this edition of the brewery tours, the BFF Bikes team will lead a group north to Lake Bluff Brewing Company. After a sampling of beers and a snack, you have the option of riding back to the city or hopping on the Metra for your return. If bikes and beer are your thing, don’t miss out. This may be the final brewery tour until next year. For more information, here.

Coming Up:

Friends of Big Marsh Black Friday Cross Race – Instead of heading to the shopping malls the Friday after Thanksgiving, opt outside and spend the day racing at the Big Marsh on the city’s south side. Remember to bring food donations for race call-ups! For event information, click here.

Gobble Cross – The Thanksgiving theme continues with this cross race in Peoria. The race will be held in Donovan Park, which has varied terrain for some off-road fun. For more information, click here.

Have a great weekend!
