Frostbite 40

We’re a few days away from March, a few more days away from the first day of spring, and we’re just a few days away from the 2018 road racing pre-season. This weekend we have comfortable temps to get outside and ride – with just a few layers. Get out, have some fun and add that extra effort to get you ready for what’s ahead.

Events:

Frostbite 40 – It may not be frosty, but it’ll still be 40 miles of gravel fun for those anxious to get the gravel season underway. Head northwest to the Freeport area for Sunday’s adventure. The race is free, but donations are welcomed and all funds go to support community service project. For more information, click here.

Coming Up:

There may not be much on the calendar next weekend, but the weather is forecasted to be in the 40’s and that’s perfect for getting outside in early March.

Plan Ahead:

Kenosha Velosport Pre-season Races – Get a jump on your racing season by participating in this annual series. The first event will be held on Sunday, March 12th. This year’s course is a 1.2 mile loop near the Kenosha Airport. For race information, click here.

ABD’s Indoor Time Trial Series – This is the third and final indoor event in this time trial series, with the fourth being held outside. Once again, the course is set for rolling hills. Go for the win or to improve your time from the previous race. For more information, click here.

Have a great weekend!

The 2018 Winter Olympics Begin

The 2018 Winter Olympics have begun and for the next few weeks, most of us will be cheering on our favorite athletes as they compete. While there’s no cycling in the Winter Olympics, there are definite cross-overs. For me, speed skating is most like bike racing, in particular, short track. No matter which event is your favorite, just be inspired by the hard work and determination it takes for each athlete to make it to the games. Use that inspiration to push you to a new level in your training and enjoy the high of tough, but fulfilling workouts.

Whether you plan to stay inside or head out, there are options for you. Check the listings below for a few local events.

Events:

Hugh Jass Series -Sturgeon Spectacular – It’s the “Spear the Fatty Fat Tire” bike race in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, tomorrow. If you can make the drive, it’ll be a fun snow-fest including fat bike racing as well as a downtown fun ride. This event is also connected to the Sturgeon Spectacular winter fest which goes on all weekend, so it’s worth the drive! For more information, click here.

ABD Indoor Time Trial #2 – The indoor competition continues with the second event in the ABD’s series. It’ll be another 10K rolling hill challenge for you to test your fitness and competitive edge. For race information or to register, click here.

Yoga for Cyclists – The eight week yoga series continues on Monday. Classes are held at the Rapha Clubhouse Chicago at 7pm. The class is free, just be sure to register and show up with your yoga mat! This is a great way to keep your body healthy and flexible for all your upcoming goals! For event and registration information, click here.

Coming Up:

Fat Abominable Snowbike Scramble – This event is all about having fun in the snow. There are individual and team events to challenge your competitive side. There’ll also be food and beverages to enjoy throughout the day. The event is just over the border at Silver Lake Park in Salem, Wisconsin. For more information, click here.
